rutilans, Schaeff. P. 6-14 cm. exp. coated with purplish down, flesh yellow; g. yellow, edge downy, orange; s. 5-8 cm. yellow with purple squamules; sp. subgl. 5-6.
variegatum, Scop. P. 5-10 cm. exp. yellow with purplish squamules; g. pale yellow, edge entire not darker coloured; s. 5-8 cm. pale yellow, more or less variegated with red; sp. 5-7 × 4-5.
Differs from T. rutilans in edge of gills.

These are forms rather than varieties.

Differs from T. imbricatum in hollow stem and reddish flesh.
